Mineral(s): Brochantite
Locality: Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Mun. de Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico
Brochantite is a well-known copper sulfate mineral, known for its needle-like green crystals growing in a spray or radial aggregates. The crystals are usually thin as hair, but a few localities have produced very high-quality crystals that are rod-like and thick.
The Milpillas Mine is a currently operating copper ore mine in northern Mexico, right by the border of Arizona. It is now world-renown for incredible azurite, malachite, cuprite, and brochantite crystals, amongst other copper minerals. The pinnacle of brochantite comes from this mine, and while this sample doesn't represent the best quality found from this mine, it's still pretty darn good.
I would also like to say that this specimen was a pain in the ass to edit because lint and dust would entangle itself around the numerous brochantite crystals. The photography wasn't so hard, but the post processing took many hours to complete.
